Predicting Complex Loads on Glass Structures

Aims & Objectives

The principal aim of working group 1 is to integrate and advance knowledge on the complex loads on glass structures. This working group is addressing Priority Area 1 identified by the research network - Predicting complex loads on glass structures.

The objectives of Working Group 1 are to unify and advance knowledge on some important, and not
fully understood aspects of loads on glass structures:
  • The time-resolved response of glass due to the dynamic loads caused by wind, blast and earthquake.
  • Loads for insulated glass units, particularly the internal pressures in curved glass units and the load sharing effects between the glass panes in an insulated unit.
  • The probabilistic nature of combined actions (such as the occurrence of combined wind and barrier loads or wind and temperature gradients).

Coordinated research in this area will enable the sharing of existing data and collaborative efforts
on the statistical analyses, and multi-physics modelling. The collaboration will also extend to the
acquisition of new data from real-world buildings.
